It will probably come as no surprise to anyone that I’m a huge fan of chocolate.
Especially Cadbury’s chocolate, which originated in England (accept no imitations – yes, I’m looking at you, America, with your thin, measly excuses for Dairy Milk).
Luckily for me, there is a Cadbury chocolate factory in Dunedin, New Zealand, which is where they make all of the Cadbury products for New Zealand and some products for Australia.
I was REALLY excited to do the factory tour, expecting that it’d just be one big chocolate fest.
Apart from the fact that we all had to wear silly net hats the whole tour, I didn’t actually get that much chocolate. Unfortunately for me, the Kiwis and Aussies seem to prefer marshmallow covered chocolate and foam bananas, as well as Turkish Delight. I can’t stand Turkish Delight and am not a huge marshmallow fan, so the goody bag that I left with was disappointing to say the least.
The one major highlight, however, was getting to sample some little cups of warm, melted milk chocolate, of which Scott and I may have consumed seven or eight between the two of us.
My lack of any proper bars of Dairy Milk, Caramel or Fruit and Nut (my favourites, FYI) meant that I had to console myself by buying a big bar of white chocolate in the gift shop after the tour had ended. Maybe that was their master plan all along – give you the cheap marshmallow so that you feel cheated and have to buy some proper chocolate at the end.
Well played, Cadbury. Well played.
