Singapore is arguably the best family destination in Southeast Asia as this small city-sized country packs a punch when it comes to fun things to do for the entire family.
While the grown-ups will go gaga for the scintillating food & drink scene, the kids will have their plates full with a seemingly endless list of fun things to do.
To get you ready for your trip, I’ve listed just a few of the most fun things for families to do in Singapore below, so happy planning!
Stay Up Late at the Night Safari
Hands down one of the top activities for kids in Singapore, the Night Safari (located inside the Mandai Wildlife Reserve) bills itself as the world’s very first exclusively nocturnal safari and you’ll have a blast observing the animals that go bump in the night. Created in the 90s, the Night Safari has become a true tradition in the city and it features the chance to see a host of animals including the much-talked-about Malayan tigers.
Watch Birds Soar at Jurong
Jurong Bird Park educates and shows off some of the most diverse bird populations in Southeast Asia. Highlights of a visit here include taking a stroll through the Waterfall Aviary (which features a breathtaking waterfall and hundreds of colorful birds) watching the tuxedo-wearing residents of Penguin Coast and hot-pink birds of Flamingo Lake and enjoying one of the many live bird shows.
Get Elevated on the Singapore Flyer
One of the largest observation wheels on the planet, the Singapore Flyer offers stunning views of the city, the surrounding sea and, on very clear days, the distant landscapes of Indonesia & Malaysia. The huge observation pods make the ride very comfortable and even the smallest kids will enjoy seeing the city below look like a miniature version of itself.
Learn a Little History
It can’t all be fun and games, can it? Well, mostly, but sometimes when you’re traveling as a family, it’s nice to give the kids a little bit of a background on the destination you’re visiting, and that’s where the National Museum comes in. Singapore’s most revered museum is home to scores of exhibits and displays that tell the story of the nation of Singapore and its people and a visit here will help you more fully understand how modern Singapore came to be and the perspective of its people.
Head to Haw Par Villa
One of the last of its kind of attraction in Asia, Haw Par is home to over 1000 statues and 150 giant dioramas that help to tell the tales of Chinese folklore. One thing is for sure: you’ve never experienced anything like it.
Get Outside at East Coast Park
This city park is located right by the water and it has a seemingly endless list of things to do for the entire family. Cycle bikes down the myriad of paths, get “extreme” at the skate park or just take a long walk or just throw a blanket down on the sand and watch the world go by, it’s up to you.
Soak Up Sentosa Island
This island may just be a short trip from the heart of the city centre, but it feels like a whole different world. Sentosa is home to everything from skywalking, indoor skydiving and zip line attractions to S.E.A. Aquarium Universal Studios and a classic boardwalk. If all that sightseeing wears you out, you can always just retreat to the beach as this island has many pristine stretches of sand.
Admire Natural Beauty at the Botanic Gardens
A hidden treasure full of lush landscaping and vibrant flowers, the Botanic Gardens are the perfect place to stop and smell the orchids. The gardens are home to one of the finest orchid collections in the world and a wide range of other wonderful botanical beauties.
Hopefully this list has given you some insight into just how many fun things for families to do in Singapore there are. Happy travels!
