If you’re in a group, or have a dog or kids (or both), stay in the cottage
The cottage is separate from the main building of the hotel, but offers the cutest and most private accommodation in the whole of Artist Residence. It has its own kitchen and living room, along with three individual bedrooms (two doubles and one with bunk beds), so is perfect for those looking to self-cater or who just want a little more space than a traditional hotel room (we definitely appreciated this with the dog – she seems to travel with almost as much stuff as we do!) The cottage is also one of only three ‘rooms’ in the hotel that allows dogs to stay; they even include a dog bed and bowls for use during your visit.
And although breakfast was included in our room rate, we also really enjoyed having a kitchen in which to make snacks/coffee and an evening meal after we’d returned from an afternoon at the Penzance Lido.
Don’t Skip Breakfast
Breakfast in the on-site restaurant, The Cornish Barn, is included in the room rate when you book directly through the hotel. The menu is full of tasty meals like poached eggs & avocado on toast, cinnamon raisin French toast with honeycomb butter, homemade granola and spinach & Cornish blue cheese scrambled eggs. That, along with a great flat white, make for one tasty – and Instagram-worthy – breakfast. So don’t lie-in too late!
Have a drink on one of the outdoor terraces
The hotel has two super-cool exterior terraces; one is designed like a beer garden, with trestle tables, an outdoor bar and a ping pong table, the other is like a white-washed ‘garden’ complete with hammock and funky seating. If the weather’s nice, then order up a cocktail and spend an hour or two at either one of them.
Take time to appreciate the quirky interior design
This is the ‘Artist Residence’, after all; named after the original location in Brighton which started life as a place for artists to come and decorate the walls in exchange for free room and board. Every room in the hotel has its own unique design and hand-picked furniture, giving it a truly special vibe.
- Artist Residence can be booked through Booking.com, but if you want breakfast included, then you need to book with the hotel directly
