As you know I love to travel. There really is no better way to expand your horizons and create fantastic memories. Naturally, you want to remember your trips, so you end up taking a lot of photos and videos. This is a great way to remind yourself of a beautiful sunset, a stunning view, a lovely person or fun day out.
Those snaps and videos can also be used to decorate your home. Below are a few of my favourite ideas.
Canvas prints
Large canvas prints look spectacular in any room, especially if they are of a beautiful view. These days, it is easy to get your favourite travel or holiday photos turned into prints to hang on your walls. They make very good presents as well. In all likelihood, your Gran will love having a photo of you standing in front of somewhere spectacular like the Niagara Falls. You can even buy smaller versions, which look great displayed on a sideboard or table. These are ideal for someone who lives in a small home or does not necessary hang anything on their walls.
Decals and wall stickers
Alternatively, those same photos can be turned into wall stickers. Transforming the wall of your dining or living room with a photo of a sunset, forest or beautiful natural view is a great way to bring the outside into your home.
These tend to be a bit more expensive than canvas prints and you need to be careful to buy the type that can easily be peeled off. Wall stickers are not easy to paint over, so you will want to remove them before redecorating. Therefore, is very important to choose the type that does not leave glue residue behind when you remove them.
Video photo frames
A few years ago video photo frames were all the rage. They have to some extent gone out of fashion, but this is a shame because they are a great way of using your photos to create interest in your home.
Create a memory wall
I really like the idea of creating a memory wall. There are lots of ways to do it. Not everyone wants to Blu-tac a map to their wall and have photos arranged around it with a coloured string going to a location pin on the map indicating where each snap was taken.
Of course, in the right setting, this type of memory wall can look really good, but this old-school approach is not for everyone. If you like rooms with crisp, clean lines a better approach is to have lots of small photos framed and arrange them in a pleasing pattern.
Another good approach is to put together a collage. They look especially good somewhere like the hallway or kitchen. Fridges are a great place to create one on. If you want more ideas about how and where to create collages from your travel photos, click this link.
Hopefully, this post has inspired you to dig out your holiday photos and videos and put them to good use by decorating your home with them. It is a fun, fast and affordable way to create unique items that bring a smile to your face as well as looking good.
