After staying in two gorgeous cottages during our Cornwall break, I was supremely inspired to recreate some of the looks back at home. Unfortunately we’re renting right now, which means we can’t make major decisions about appliances, wall fixtures or paint colours, but we can control the furniture, lightshades, mirrors and other smaller décor items.
The theme at both of our cottages was rustic, with shades of blue and grey (and the odd pop of colour thrown in via colourful cushions or artwork). Having endlessly scrolled though Instagram, Pinterest and several interior design companies websites, I’ve curated several ‘looks’ that I want to aspire to in regards to our interior décor, in order to make our little slice of the city feel a little more ‘coastal retreat’.
I love the idea of white-washed walls and pale blue bedding with pops of colour like this beach house setup.
This gorgeous bedding from The White Company is understand and classy, but has the perfect ‘beach cottage’ colours.
I could easily sink into this chair from Loaf and stay there all day. Great for both living rooms and larger bedrooms.
No coastal themed home décor would be complete without a fishermen’s lamp, like this uber cool hanging version from Wayfair.
Can you really call it a cottage if it doesn’t have a wood-burning stove? We had one in our cottage in Penzance and although it was summer and we didn’t get any use out of it (boo!), it sure was nice to look at.
Stoves are usually pretty expensive, but you can definitely find some bargains if you sop around, like this one from B&Q. You’ll have to pay to get it properly installed, though – don’t try and do that yourself or you could be heading for disaster.
Enamel plateware is all the rage at the moment, and they just scream ‘rustic cottage’. Lakeland sell a whole range of plates and pie dishes at reasonable prices.
Wool throws look chic when draped over beds, sofas and chairs and are much needed on colder winter nights.
This herringbone one from Heal’s fits perfectly with a beach theme and comes in several colours that would all look great with the colour scheme here (gray, mint & gray and nav).
