During the course of the month of March, I have to buy presents for five different family members, each of them women. Not only that, but Mother’s Day in the UK also regularly falls in March (as it does this year), and 2017 is the year of two milestone birthdays in my family for my sister and my Mum. So to say that buying six unique (and special) gifts is a challenge is a bit of an understatement.
I’ve already started my online search for gifts, and in doing so came across Uncommon Goods, who specialize in unique, one-of-a-kind presents. Not only that, but I feel like the business’ core values align with my own somewhat – they use handmade or organic goods wherever possible and they regularly fund charitable non-profit organizations, as well as ensuring they provide US health insurance to most of their staff. Commendable, I’m sure you’ll agree.
I’ve picked out a few of my favourite items from their online shop that fulfil my birthday shopping wish lists for this year, for each member of the family that I have to buy for.
Sister
I think my sister would love this personalized family print, with caricatures of each member of her family. They don’t have a pet, but you can add flowers (I’m guessing to signify a garden?)
Because it’s a milestone birthday, I’d also really like to get her something made from/incorporating her birthstone, and these mini jewellery dishes are adorable.
Other imaginative birthday gifts I found include a cheese and crackers board shaped like an ampersand (she *loves* cheese), a links of love bracelet and some perfume inspired by wine flavours (chardonnay perfume anyone?)
Mother
My Mum loves drinking tea, so these teas from around the world seem like a really novel way to introduce her to some flavours she wouldn’t otherwise have tried.
And again, as it’s a milestone birthday, I’d like to get something to mark the age, so this personalized candle is very cute for the house.
I found both of these items in the gifts for women section, which seems to skew a little more towards the older demographic – perfect for Mum’s, Mother’s Day and even Grandmas.
Nieces
My eldest niece loves helping out around the kitchen, so this rolling pin is a really cute and fun way to encourage her to get involved with the baking!
She also loves to read, and this customizable book about being a big sister is perfect for her – especially to help her remember why she should love her younger sister even when they have fallen out.
There are plenty more gifts that can be personalized on their site, and I know this is something that young children love, so will have no trouble picking up plenty of gifts for my other nieces as well.
