We’re almost in the thick of summer, and you know what that means—it’s festival season. Before you run happily into the upcoming concert or beer event of your dreams, make sure you are decked out with all the essentials you need to make the experience as easy, fun, and stylish as it should be.
A Fun Swimsuit
Summer festivals means a lot of sun time and plenty of opportunity to hang out by the pool while you wait for the venue to open. Make sure you look the part before you even make it to the venue with the perfect sassy and fun swimsuit. This year, skip the same old boring bikini top and bottom and try out an eye-catching one-piece with a fun phrase. Check out the swimsuit offerings from ShopBop.com. Perhaps a magenta suit with the word “mermaid” emblazoned on the front will have you laying on the pool deck with glee. Maybe you’re wanting to go a bit saucier: the bright red “Bae Watch” one piece is going to be a definite favorite at the hotel pool. You’ll love it so much you’ll probably want to wear it into the venue. Slap on a pair of cutoff jeans and you’ve got the casual chic concert look everyone will be drooling over.
A Fun Fanny Pack
News flash: fanny packs aren’t just for nerdy dads anymore. Okay, so they may not be high-fashion couture, but the most pragmatic of us know how ridiculously useful they can be. Leaving your campsite or hotel room for the venue means coming prepared with a host of items, including sunscreen, ChapStick, your phone, tickets, cash, and any other must-haves you might deem necessary to stay on your person.
Practice Safe…Sun?
You’ve seen it a million times. The guy or gal who completely forget to apply sunscreen in the morning, and as a result, has skin redder than any tomato you’ve ever encountered. A one and done application isn’t going to cut it when you’re baking under the hot sun for hours at a time, so make sure you bring some natural Purple Prairie sunscreen along with you and reapply throughout the day—stay on your friends, too. Nothing ruins a fun weekend in the sun more than a burn that doesn’t allow you to leave the shade for more than five minutes at a time. Beyond sunscreen, make sure you bring sunglasses to protect those eyeballs, and make sure you don a hat, whether it be of the baseball variety or stylish and brimmed, to keep your scalp from getting roasted. For those of you attending a festival under cloudy weather, here’s a fun PSA: The sun can burn you even in overcast conditions. Consider yourselves warned.
A Portable Charger
Phones become a bit of a hassle when it comes to festival season. If you’re even able to get service within the hordes of other concertgoers attempting to text and call their friends, you look at your phone to find it has somehow lost 80 percent battery in the last hour…might have something to do with all of those snapchats of the headliner, but I digress. Being in the middle of a desert venue with no access to a phone charger is no fun situation, so make sure you bring along a portable charger to keep your phone performing in top shape.
Embrace Your Patriotism
Don’t know if you’ve heard, but there are some weird things going on at the American polls. Ignore that for a weekend and try to reignite some of that American patriotism with some red, white, and blue. Websites like www.tipsyelves.com have a plethora of American-themed options for you to get your patriotic duty on, and rest assured that American Flag shirts and shorts will always be a staple at festivals, no matter who winds up nabbing the presidency come this November.
As we step further into the welcoming, warm embrace of summer, make sure you have your festival essentials ready to go and make this a season you’ll never forget.
