Now that 2014 is almost coming to a close (eek!), I guess it’s time to reflect on the past year and the one that is just around the corner.
2014 was all about settling down – moving to Amsterdam, getting an apartment and just spending quality time with the Bassett. We achieved that pretty well (minus a few hiccups here and there), but that also meant that we didn’t get much travel in during this year. We did still manage to squeeze in two major US road trips, a quick jaunt to Iceland, a Christmas market crawl in Germany and visits back home to the UK and US. So we didn’t do too badly.
Now that we’re based in Europe full time, it should be easy for us to explore the continent more this coming year. So here’s a few of the places that are on my “to see” list for 2015.
Paris
We actually already have our train tickets booked for a trip to Paris in early February, so this was an easy one to include on here. I haven’t been to Paris since I was 18, when all I really wanted to do was go to the top of the Eiffel Tower and visit Disneyland. Needless to say, I’ve grown up a (little) bit since then, and now I want to return to the city and uncover some of its hidden gems, not to mention sample some hopefully delicious sweet treats and pastries!
What I plan to do: Visit the underground catacombs, get lost in Shakespeare and Company bookstore, eat savoury crepes, eat ALL. THE. pain au chocolat, drool over macarons at Laduree (and maybe eat some of those, too)
Prague
Prague is another city that I’ve visited before, but not since I was a child one bitter cold Christmas time. After looking at some of the lovely local hotels on Venere, I realised that it was high time for me to make another visit, this time when I was old enough to appreciate how beautiful the city is.
What I plan to do: Visit the castle, get a different taste of life at the Invisible Exhibition, take a food tour, eat fruit dumplings and potato pancakes until I burst.
Spring Fest, Germany
Having already ticked Oktoberfest off my list a couple of years ago, I’d love to experience another festival in Germany, except this time with hopefully fewer tourists. This is where Spring Fest comes in; a lot like Oktoberfest but with a more local feel it is to celebrate the arrival of spring, as the name would suggest.
What I plan to do: Wear a dirndl, drink beer, eat pretzels.
Scandinavia
Ok, this is a fairly big region to include on this list compared to the others, but it’s a part of the world that I’m dying to see more of. I’d love to visit regions of Scandinavia both in summer time and during the Christmas markets and watching copious amounts of shows like The Bridge does nothing to temper my desire to go.
What I plan to do: Glacier walking in Norway, visit Tivoli Gardens and Legoland in Denmark, see the shipwreck at the Vasa Museum in Sweden, photograph the architecture of Finland.
If I manage to get to all of these places in 2015, the year will be pretty damn exciting! What’s on your 2015 travel list?
