I don’t need to tell you how much I love Mexico. From my first visit to Mexico City for Dia de los Muertos, to the three months I spent exploring the country last summer, I have fallen for the country hard.
It’s not difficult to love somewhere that has such a diverse food, culture and landscape, as well as such friendly and welcoming people. So when the Mexico Tourism Board asked me to talk about my love for the country and why people should explore all of it, not just bustling Mexico City, I didn’t hesitate.
Firstly, there’s the cenotes and beaches of the Yucatan. The beach in Tulum was one of the most gorgeous I’ve ever stepped foot on and swimming in the cenotes in Valladolid was like finding a hidden spot of paradise.
Next, there’s the food in Oaxaca and Mexico City. Such diverse cities, filled with everything from sizzling street food to gourmet cuisine. I definitely had my fair share of tacos al pastor, guacamole and quesadillas while I was in the country.
Then there’s the beauty of Chiapas – it’s lush landscapes and quaint cobbled towns like San Cristobal. Up in the mountains, the air gets cold, but the freshly brewed hot chocolate keeps you warm.
And lastly, there’s the buzzing nightlife and shopping in the Riviera Maya. If you want to relax and unwind, this is definitely the place to do it.
But there’s one place that Scott and I never made it to that still intrigues me and that’s Guanajuato. I see so many photos of its colourful buildings and beautiful churches nestled among the mountains and I’m dying to go. But I guess that’s the beauty of a country as large and diverse as Mexico: there’s always a reason to go back.
This post was brought to you by the Mexico Tourism Board, but written by me.
