In order to correctly execute a construction project, special equipment is required to get the job done efficiently and safely. For jobs that require excavators and quality control equipment, it is best to understand the project in which you are repairing and the supplies that are needed beforehand. Take a closer look at some of the equipment that you might need for general projects and their importance.
Slurry Wall
Slurry walls are cut-off, non-structural walls that use a slurry trench installation method. This method uses engineered “slurry” such as water and clay to create a barrier to stop or impede groundwater flow. With its extensive reach, a long stick excavator is one example of a construction vehicle used to manage such a task. Since this task is tedious, time-consuming and needs handling with utmost care, the long stick excavator is a perfect fit for this job because of the small and controlled elements in the foundation.
Grouting
Grouting is the injection of materials into rock or soil to change the characteristics of the formation. There are several different ways of grouting, such as jet grouting, permeation and fracture grouting. You must have the correct drilling device, such as a percussion drill, a jack hammer, drifters, and wagon drills in order to successfully complete a project.
Ground Improvements
Ground improvement techniques require important equipment that is specific to the job at hand. Some of these techniques include vibrocompaction, a method that uses vibration to stabilize and level grounds. Ground freezing uses refrigeration to convert in-situ pore water into ice. The ice acts as cement which bounds the particles of soil together to keep them strong. Temperatures can vary. Heating is also a ground improvement technique that breaks the soil to form a crystallized, glass like product. Temperatures can also vary with this technique. Other methods include vacuum consolidation, preloading and vibroreplacement.
Grading
Grading is the process of creating a desired shape or elevation in the ground. Some common grading tools used for this purpose are motor graders and grade trimmers such as a towed sheep foot roller or a grid roller.
Compaction
Another important method that requires the correct tools is compaction, the function that produces a higher density in the soil by mechanical means. Some equipment commonly used in compaction is the self-propelled tamping foot roller, vibrator tamping foot roller and segment steel wheel roller. Kneading, impact, static weight and vibration are a few types of forces that are used in compaction.
Erecting and Lifting
For construction projects that require lifting, tower cranes can be an excellent tool. Horizon boom tower cranes are used for high rise building construction and inclined boom tower cranes assist with erecting steel structures. Derricks are fixed cranes are useful when moving materials from one point to another in the same location. When you’re considering a home improvement project, the correct tools will make all the difference in safety, cost effectiveness and time-saving.
