We all know I love a good breakfast dish. From muffins to granola or a weekend splurge on hash browns or chilaquiles, it has always been one of my favourite meals of the day.
One thing I’ve never quite conquered, though, is French toast. I enjoy it, but it never sparks enough interest in me to make it that often, or even order it out. But recently a lot of delicious-looking recipes have been popping up all over the web for less-than-traditional French toast recipes that include a lot more than just eggy bread and syrup. Here’s some of the most drool-worthy I’ve found so far.
Hot Chocolate French Toast (via Half Baked Harvest): If you’re the kind of person who dunks your French toast into your hot chocolate then this is the plateful for you. It’s dessert, it’s breakfast, it’s downright delicious.
Coconut Cream Pie French Toast (via Minimalist Baker): You may have not noticed *cough* but coconut has been my favourite for over a year now. Coconut everything. I am loving this toast topped with whipped coconut milk and toasted coconut.
Overnight Bananas Foster French Toast (via Chef In Training): This is a soft, pillowy, sweet French toast casserole that would get anyone out of bed in the morning. Plus, it’s like eating crepes for breakfast. A win-win situation.
S’Mores French Toast (via Creme de la Crumb): I’ve yet to ever try a s’more. What can I say, we just don’t “do” them in the UK. That doesn’t stop me from drooling over this combination of marshmallow, chocolate syrup and graham cracker crumb.
French Toast Doughnuts (via Bakingdom): Taking breakfast to the party table, these delectable little doughnuts look like a hybrid of a cinnamon roll, a doughnut and French toast. So, basically, three amazingly delicious things in one.
Banana Bread French Toast (via Spoon Fork Bacon): Why did I never think of this before? This is a great way to use up leftover banana bread (although why would you have leftovers? That’s just crazy.)
French Toast Muffins (via The Urban Baker): First doughnuts and now muffins? You people blow me away! I love any excuse to eat muffins at breakfast time, so why not make them taste like a breakfast dish?
French Toast Kabobs (via Tablespoon): Possibly the funnest way to eat your French toast in the morning is to cut it up into small pieces and skewer it with fruit. Also perfect for a brunch party.
Cannoli Stuffed French Toast (via Two Peas and Their Pod): I tried my first ever cannoli at an Italian restaurant in Pheonix a few months ago and now I’m hooked. But the thought of having that rich cream and chocolate chips at breakfast? Amazing.
Pecan Crusted French Toast (via Love Grows Wild): As Scott is a huge pecan fan (if that’s even a thing), then we eat pecans in our breakfast a lot more than I ever used to. Pretty sure he would love this French toast crusted with crushed pecans.
Lemon Meringue French Toast (via I Am A Food Blog): There’s a theme energing here. And that theme is that it’s great to have dessert for breakfast. Lemon curd and meringue on my breakfast plate? Yes please.
Brioche French Toast with Bananas, Creme Patissiere and Salted Caramel (via Citrus and Candy): There is so much right with this that I don’t know where to start.Creme patissiere, flambeed bananas and salted caramel = heaven.
Baked Chai Spiced French Toast (via Savory Simple): This is basically a cake, but using French toast. And as it has chai spices in it (which I love), then it is definitely the kind of breakfast cake I want to be eating.
Peanut Butter and Jelly French Toast Sandwich (via Cooking Stoned): Again, I find myself saying “Why didn’t I think of this?”. The classic American sandwich combo is given a breakfast remake, which delicious results.
Baked Croissant Cinnamon French Toast (via Pinch of Yum): Just when you thought the buttery goodness of croissants couldn’t get any better, Lindsay ramps it up a notch by baking them with cinnamon for a breakfast time treat.

All of these look so very good, I couldn’t possibly pick just one to try. So I guess we need to have 2 weeks of French Toast at my house to choose our favorite.
Happy SITS day! 🙂

Oh my god, I need some French toast now! Pinned immediately! I have never heard of hot chocolate French toast but it looks completely amazing. I recently had pecan-crusted for the first time and now I’m a total convert. Also, coconut everything! I feel you there. I found you via SITS and am so coming back for more 🙂
