If you fancy giving the family a day out remember, why not buy train tickets to London for a trip in the next couple of months? The capital has loads to see and do whenever you choose to visit but here are a few we think you’ll enjoy:
Hackney City Farm
Farm animals probably aren’t one of the things you’re likely to associate with England’s biggest city, but you can see a wide variety of them at Hackney City Farm. It’s open every day apart from Monday, so those getting trains to London shouldn’t find it too difficult to plan a visit. Opening hours can vary, so it’s worth checking in advance to make sure you don’t miss out on saying hello to creatures including pigs, goats, donkeys, ducks, sheep and chickens.
National Portrait Gallery
If you fancy getting your creative juices flowing, the National Portrait Gallery could be the perfect place to do it. With its stunning collections you’re always sure of seeing something impressive and with a regularly changing events calendar there’s plenty of reasons to make a return visit. Until June 1st you’ll be able to enjoy Bailey’s Stardust, featuring more than 250 portraits taken by the acclaimed photographer David Bailey. If you have the time you might also like to take in the Great War in Portraits, which features film, photography, drawings and paintings relating to the conflict.
V&A Museum of Childhood
Visitors young and old will enjoy a trip to the V&A Museum of Childhood, which has a huge selection of childhood-related objects dating back many years. You can expect to see costumes, games, doll houses and toys, as well as a range of hands-on exhibits to bring the experience to life. Keep an eye out for special events too, as these often take place during school holidays and at the weekend. There’s also a café, which might be the ideal place to refuel.
Curious about Trafalgar Square
Visitors from around the globe flock to London’s Trafalgar Square and this self-guided walking tour is a good way to learn a little more about the area. Two walks are available to choose from and these can be downloaded or sent to you via post. The beauty of strolling along the routes in this way is that you’ll be able to find out more about the capital, while stopping off as and when you like.
