After The Worst School Ski Holiday In The History Of The World back in my teenage years, I’ve shied away from the slopes. Just the thought of donning a pair of skis leaves me shivering more than I would if I was truly in the snow.
But, every now and then, I see some amazing photos of my friends on Facebook, of them gliding down a ski slope and enjoying a spot of apres ski drunkeness high spirits and it makes me kinda want to give it another go.
Inghams ran a ski photo competition for the best photos from last year’s ski season over on Facebook (you can see the album here) and it has done nothing to allay my ski regrets. Here are a few of my favourite photos from that album and why I like them.
I don’t know what is more impressive in this photo: the sunset or the snowy trees. This photo was actually the winner of the competition and you can clearly see why. It just screams “cool winter wonderland” and should make anyone who looks at it want to book the next flight out there.
Even though there isn’t much going on in this photo, I love it because it looks like the front of a Christmas card. The way the sun is creeping through the trees makes it seem very magical.
I have talked about my desire to see the Northern Lights before (it’s on my bucket list) and this shot is amazing. I’m really hoping to get a shot like this myself in Iceland in Janaury, but I doubt it’ll be as impressive as this.
If this hadn’t been sent in by a Facebook user, I would think it had been Photoshopped. The way the powdery snow is whipping off the tops of the trees, not to mention the wooden cabin adding to the whole scene, just makes it look like something out of a fairytale.
I had to give these people a mention just for the sheer hard work they put in for this photo. Anyone can click a button and capture a sunset, but cover yourself in snow and still manage to keep hold of your drink? Now that’s impressive.
I may not be taking to the ski slopes any time soon, but these photos have definitely convinced me to re-think my hatred towards winter sports holidays. They are just so damn picturesque I may have to give it another go, if only for the scenery.
