As the Christmas season is right around the corner, it’s probably time to start thinking about our December plans. Like last year when we spent a week-and-a-half touring Scotland, there is a pretty good chance that we will end up spending a week or so this year somewhere in the United Kingdom before we head home to my parent‘s place for the holiday. Lately, we have been kicking a few ideas around of where we would like to go if that plan does end up indeed coming to fruition. While we haven’t locked anything in, here are a few of the ideas that we have, but stay tuned to Confused Julia in the coming weeks to see the full itinerary we end up settling on.
Cornwall
In September, we saw the movie About Time, which had many of its scenes filmed in Cornwall. Ever since then, Scott has been talking about wanting to go to Cornwall, and I have to admit that it has peaked my interest as well. It would be great to rent a cottage, preferable one by the sea and enjoy the low season in Cornwall. This area is so beautiful that I don’t think a little chill in the air would put a damper on things, and this way we will have the beach completely to ourselves for a walk. And besides, a chilly beach walk is just a good excuse to warm-up with a toasty Cornish pasty afterwards.
Wild and Wonderful Wales
Wales is another region that is on the shortlist for our December plans. Wales is known as the most rural and naturally wild part of the UK, and again, the idea of just finding a secluded cottage or bed and breakfast near Snowdonia National Park seems like it would be a fun thing to do in December. We could spend our days doing some hiking or walking and our nights in warm pubs enjoying some Welsh culinary specialties. Cardiff is also home to a small Christmas Market and while I am sure it won’t be anything like the one in Manchester, it still could be a fun night or two on the way in or out of Wales.
Stonehenge
This isn’t an entire region or country like Cornwall or Wales was, but if we end up flying into Southern England, It would be cool to finally get to see Stonehenge, as I have never been there. In addition, there is traditionally a large gathering around the Winter Solstice at Stonehenge, as the sunset that day lines up with the famous monument.
Take a Bath
We had actually planned on going to Bath in September, but as plans have a tendency to do sometimes, they changed on us. So, it may be time to pick up where we left off with those plans. Enjoying a thermal bath in December would be a fantastic way to spend a day and after seeing the famous Sally Lunn Buns featured on Great British Bake-Off this season, I would love to try one for myself.
