When you think of the principality of Monaco, what comes to mind? Do fast cars that race through your head? Do yachts float to the top of your thoughts? Do clanging casino bells and whistles go off? How about ballet? Do ballet dancers prance through your mind? Ok, I am going to go out on a limb and assume that you probably nodded at the first three. I’ll also go back out on that same limb and assume that ballet dancers do not, I repeat do not, in fact prance through your mind when you think of the principality of Monaco. Well, maybe that should change.
With the EU recently declaring that Europe is committed to promoting the tradition of excellence in European culture around the world, many forms of European culture are being exported and ballet is one of them. Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo has a 30 year history of being a cultural icon in Europe under its belt, and was recently selected to go to Brazil to spread the word of European culture in South America by performing Romeo & Juliet.
As you will see in this video below, the experience was more than just simply a trip across the Atlantic Ocean to dance. Since Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo is made up of dancers from over 25 countries, it was in fact a homecoming for a couple dancers and their reactions to being home in the video were priceless. Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo brings together those passionate about ballet from all around the world, and shows that Monaco truly has a special role in the world as a place that brings people together.
What this video goes to show more than anything, is that cultural arts have a way of bringing people together like none other, and the principality of Monaco is poised to take advantage of its special role on the world stage to do great things. Bravo, Monaco. Bravo!
