Much like the first time I visited Dublin, my New Year’s Eve visit in 2012 was a flying one.
We were only there for two nights and our aim was clear: to drink some Guinness and enjoy NYE in a city known for enjoying life.
It was freezing cold (of course) while we were there, but we did manage to see some sunshine during the day and I snapped a picture of the Ha’Penny Bridge for Instagram.
But then I saw it at night on New Year’s Eve and it looked so much more impressive (or maybe everything always does after a few Guinness’?) I love how dramatic it looks against the black water and how brightly the lights above it are shining, guiding everyone home after a night on the tiles.
We rang in midnight in The Cobblestone pub, listening to a medley of Irish folk performers and supping the black stuff. It was definitely more low-key than we had envisaged for our first proper New Year’s Eve spent together (instead of over Skype as the previous year had been), but it was perfect.
