We visited Mittenwald in Germany for just a day last summer, back when Munich was our base.
I’ll be honest, I didn’t really know much about the place (doesn’t it seem like I’m always saying that? Oh yes, that’s right, because I AM) aside from the fact that it’s a big ski resort in the winter. Not being much of a skier (after a high school ski trip left me traumatised for life), I hadn’t though there would be much appeal of the town for me.
What I found was a beautifully pretty, albeit very touristed, town with a dramatic backdrop of stunning mountain scenery. I was walking past the gates of this cemetery as we headed into town and even though I’m not a very religious person, I loved the way the gold figure of Jesus is rising up above everything else with the mountains towering behind.
