We haven’t been lucky enough to find brunch in many places since we left New Zealand. I wouldn’t even consider it to be something we “do” in England, but as an American Scott takes his brunch very seriously. VERY seriously. And as we have become extremely late risers these days, brunch is the perfect meal for us.
So when we discovered that there was a swanky “concept” store in Belgrade called Supermarket which had a well-respected restaurant AND which served brunch, of course we had to give it a try.
Luckily for us the day we went the weather was good enough to sit outside, which is definitely the best way to enjoy brunch, if you ask me. And even better was that there is a daily breakfast deal allowing you to order a fresh fruit smoothie, bagel and eggs of your choice from the menu all for only a small sum.
First up we were delivered some soda bread and fresh baked rolls with our fruit smoothies (kiwi, banana, blueberry, yogurt and honey).
Then came the good part.
I had ordered the mushroom and cheese omelette (which came with deliciously toasted bread) and the bagel with banana and chococreme (a Nutella-type spread). My omelette was gooey and soft, although I was already pretty full from eating the bread rolls (oops) but still managed to squeeze in the bagel which was literally dripping with chocolate nut spread.
Scott ordered sunny side up eggs with bacon and the bagel with cheese. His bacon was wonderfully crispy, more so than any we have had anywhere else in the Balkans.
We checked out the rest of the menu after we had eaten and everything sounded delicious. Supermarket Restaurant in Belgrade definitely isn’t the cheapest place in the city, but it is definitely worth the splurge, particularly since Sunday brunch is very affordable and you get lots of good food.
