Sometimes phone apps are the best way of finding good food in the nearby area when you’re in an unfamiliar face.
One day whilst checking (or drooling over) the photos on Foodspotting, I noticed several delicious-looking cakes which all came from the same cafe – Lila Korte in Budapest. Having a ridiculous sweet tooth meant that I had to make a visit (or several, you know, just for consistency testing) to this wonderful place.
The cafe itself is very funky – all plastic, metal and shiny things, which adds to the excitement of the sugar overload you’re about to indulge in. We visited the cafe on two occasions, sampling different cakes each time and they were all just as delicious and fresh as each other. The photo above shows the white chocolate and dill cheesecake. I ordered this without realising that it was in fact dill (I like to live on the edge and take a chance with my cake purchases) and so the first mouthful was indeed a surprise. Having gotten over the fact that something which usually accompanies fish was in my cheesecake, it actually turned out to be one of the most delicious combinations I’ve ever eaten.
On the second visit I enjoyed an orange and caramel cake, whilst also sampling Scott’s vanilla walnut cream slice and a scrummy white chocolate tart in a pastry case.
As an added bonus you get a small glass of sparkling water with each purchase to cleanse your palate, but I would note that you have to pay a service charge here, so sometimes even just an order of two cakes can add up quickly if you’re on a budget.
Overall though, the consistency and wonderful flavour combinations here, plus the freshness of the desserts (and from what I could see, the ice cream) definitely make it a must-visit in the trendy Downtown area of Budapest.
If you follow in our foodsteps:
- The cafe is open until 10pm every day but supplies of cakes obviously dwindle as the day goes on, so for more variety make sure to visit by mid-afternoon.
- Lila Korte is located at 1053 Budapest, Kecskeméti utca 2, Magyarország
