Geographers Cafe
This cafe is all about looks. The place itself looks good, complete with jungle-style foliage, mist sprays and atmospheric music. The food looks good, always stylishly arranged on the plate/bowl/coconut shell. And it doesn’t taste half bad either. Good range of both Western and Malaysian food, with a focus on healthy ingredients and no MSG. Geographers also caters well for vegetarians.
The Baboon House
I can’t say enough good things about the burgers here. Homemade buns, great patties, delicious spices, plenty of sauce and fresh salad. I mean really, what else can a wonderful burger encompass? The best Western-style burgers I have had in the whole of Asia so far.
Jonkers Walk Night Market
The night market is what the majority of tourists come to Melaka for. Running every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night, there are plenty of bargains to be found here. Food tends to be finger food as opposed to full meals, but you can still find the odd gem.
Jonkers 88
I already spoke about the nasi lemak here, but the real star of the show at Jonkers 88 is the laksa. Seafood or chicken redang floating in a sea of spicy coconut sauce, noodles, veggies, egg and bean curd puffs mean that the queue for this place is often out the door.
Capitol Satay
What a great idea Capitol have come up with here: choose from a variety of sticks of meat, fish and veggies all priced at 0.90 RM each, stick them in a vat of hot satay sauce and cook them yourself, then when you are full, the staff just count the number of sticks or bowls you have eaten (a bit like most tapas in Spain). But be warned that you WILL have to queue to get a table in this place. Whether it is worth the wait is something I will allow you to decide, but as it seems to be a Melaka institution, you almost have to try it out and see.
