It was never going to be difficult to fall in love with New Zealand. I had high expectations and after the adjustments I’d had to make in Fiji, I was ready for a change. The Land of the Long White Cloud didn’t disappoint.
Similar to England in many respects (some of the green scenery in the North Island and the local slang in particular) it is also foreign enough to make the isolation from the rest of the world seem all the more real.
My first week in the Land of the Long White Cloud was spent tasting wines and lazing on beaches on Waiheke Island, strolling the streets of the Ponsonby neighbourhood of Auckland, appreciating the art deco architecture in Napier and a couple of trips to a little fast food joint called Burgerfuel (seriously the best burgers I’ve ever eaten in my life. No exception.)
New Zealand and I could have a really good thing going on here.
